Frequently asked questions
Seattle Atheists is a non-prophet and not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving the atheist community in the Puget Sound Region. We strive to promote understanding and respect toward all freethinkers by providing information, creating a sense of fellowship, actively opposing discrimination, and above all, emphasizing science, reason, and critical thinking over the supernatural.
We have a variety of events and activities we do for education and fun. We have hosted prominent speakers on a variety of subjects. We sponsor holiday celebrations for such holidays as Darwin Day and the Winter Solstice. We also host ongoing events for walks, clubs, and social meetings.
Like any other group of like-minded individuals, we get together to do fun things we all enjoy. It’s an environment where atheists and agnostics can feel safe and share their thoughts, journeys, and observations.
Seattle Atheists formed this non-profit group in part to be able to provide community services and to raise funds for events that help educate the public about atheism.
We have blood drives, volunteer at Food Lifeline every other month, and generally participate in several other charitable activities throughout the year, such as the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and holiday gift wrapping to benefit Seattle Children’s Hospital. While we are prohibited from endorsing or working on behalf of candidates for public office, we have also participated in advocacy for issues that align with the organization’s vision.
