Frequently asked questions

What is Seattle Atheists?

Seattle Atheists is a non-prophet and not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving the atheist community in the Puget Sound Region. We strive to promote understanding and respect toward all freethinkers by providing information, creating a sense of fellowship, actively opposing discrimination, and above all, emphasizing reason and critical thinking over the supernatural.

How can I contact you?

Go to our Contact page and fill out the form or email info@seattleatheists.org . Or you can leave a voicemail at the phone number listed there.

What type of things does this group do together?

We have a variety of events and activities we do for education and fun. We have hosted prominent speakers on a variety of subjects. We sponsor holiday celebrations for such holidays as Darwin Day and the Winter Solstice. We also host ongoing events for walks, clubs, and social meetings. Like any other group of like-minded individuals, we get together to do fun things we all enjoy. It’s an environment where atheists and agnostics can feel safe and share their thoughts, journeys, and observations.

Do you give back to the community?

Seattle Atheists formed this non-profit group in part to be able to provide community services and to raise funds for events that help educate the public about atheism. We have regular blood drives, volunteer at Food Lifeline every other month, and generally participate in several other charitable activities throughout the year, such as the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and holiday gift wrapping to benefit Seattle Children’s Hospital. While we are prohibited from endorsing or working on behalf of candidates for public office, we have also participated in advocacy for issues that align with the organization’s vision.

Are there ways to volunteer at Seattle Atheists?

Absolutely! We are happy to hear from members who have ideas for activities we can help them realize. We also appreciate people who are willing to help out at events. Just sign up at our volunteer page.

What are donations used for?

Donations are used to support activities, events, and charitable giving. The Board and volunteers are all unpaid.

Are donations tax deductible?

Yes, we are a 501(c)(3) under the IRS code. Your donations are deductible.

Are you connected with the Seattle Atheist Church?

While we have similar beliefs and missions, we are not affiliated with the Seattle Atheist Church.
