Member Update - November 2007

Hello Members!

Seattle Atheists would like to remind you of the following events:

Gift Wrapping
As part of our ongoing Community Service and Outreach efforts, Seattle Atheists will once be again wrapping gifts at bookstores this holiday season! For the 3rd year in a row, we'll not only be crushing those misconceptions of Atheists as hatefully "anti-Christmas", but we will be cheerfully collecting donations for an even better cause. All money raised will be donated to Children's Hospital.

I've signed us up for a few shifts already, and will add more depending on volunteer availability. If you are interested in gift wrapping, just send me an email with:

1) If you can do one of the following shifts.
2) If you're available for any weekday shifts. The bookstores tell me there are plenty of open spots, so if none of these shifts work for you, feel free to suggest a day that does! Earlier emails and SA members get first picks. If you have any questions, just let me know.

Current Shifts:
Sat, Nov. 24th - Downtown Seattle Borders - 11am to 3pm, 3pm to 7pm
Sat, Nov. 24th - Bellevue B&N - 10am to 2pm, 2pm to 6pm
(These are both on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, which should be a big shopping day, so we'll need lots of volunteers!)

Sat, Dec. 15th - Downtown Seattle Borders - 1pm to 4pm, 4pm-7pm
Sun, Dec. 16th - Downtown Seattle Borders - 1pm to 4pm, 4pm-7pm

Raise money for a good cause, help put a friendly face on Atheism, and have lots of fun doing it!
-Megan Spielbusch, SA Gift Wrapping Coordinator

Blood Drive
Thursday, November 15, 2007 at the Puget Sound Blood Center in Bellevue Please RSVP to Shellie Brighton if you would like to donate blood this day, with an approximate time slot you prefer. We generally donate at the Bellevue Puget Sound Blood Center, but any other PSBC facility will suffice. We usually go out for a group dinner afterwards.

November Board Meeting
Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the Greenwood Library Board meetings are always open to the public. This event is not sponsored by the library.

Speaker Event: Lori Lipman Brown
Saturday, December 1st at 7:00 p.m.
The Northwest Freethought Coalition will be hosting Lori Lipman Brown, Director of the Secular Coalition of America, on Saturday, December 1st at 7:00 p.m. at the University Unitarian Church. The topic of her presentation has not been announced yet.

And last but not least, a reminder and request:

Seattle Atheists is YOUR organization. Please keep in mind that the board is made up of volunteers. We really need your input and most of all your active involvement in the organization to reach our goals. Our members have great ideas of how to improve the organization, the website, and wonderful suggestions for activities and events. But the nine of us cannot do it all alone! Get more involved and let your voice be heard. Attend board meetings, member meetings, and committee meetings, and volunteer to participate in our events and activities. Without assistance from the membership, your suggestions will take longer to implement and our positive contributions to the community will not have as great an impact.

Thanks and the board hopes to see you all at these and future events!
