Member Update - April 2006
Welcome to the Member Update! Every couple months or so, we plan to publish a summary
of current news, Board activity, and past event wrap-ups. This will be sent exclusively
to members, as a way for you to keep in touch with Seattle Atheists, find out what's
happening, and how you can get involved. It's a work in progress, so
please share any feedback you have.
Feedback Needed - Election Term Change
As mentioned in the March Update, we are considering a shift from 1-year to 2-year
board terms. If you have any thoughts or comments, be sure to
let us know ASAP. We will be discussing it at the coming Board Meeting,
this Wednesday, April 26th, and an all-member vote will be held at the next general
member meeting (TBD). In case you missed it, read more about the proposed change
in the March 2006
Update.
"Day of Reason" Blood Drive - May 4th
To celebrate the National Day of Reason on Thursday, May 4th,
Seattle Atheists is having another Blood Drive! The idea is that while many others
will be praying on the National Day of Prayer, we'll actually engage in something
tangible that helps people. Other atheist groups around the country are planning
similar blood drives.
You can donate any time during next week (May 1-6th), but there will also be a group
donating on the evening of the 4th. For donor info, locations, and hours, see www.psbc.org. Then contact
Tiffany if you would like to donate.

Upcoming Events
There are always several member-hosted social events going on. If you're interested
in getting to know some fellow Atheists, check the calendar of events on the
Seattle Atheist Yahoo group.
Coming up:
Movie Night - Saturday, April 29th.
Pool Night - Saturday, May 13th.
Last weekend several atheists celebrated "Wester, the Un-Easter", hosted by Shellie.
In addition to member activities, the calendar also includes events and activities
by other organizations, such as Humanists of Washington, ECS, and several area Meetups.
These events are an excellent opportunity to develop the Atheist community, make
new friends, find mostly like-minded people, and get to know many of your Board
members who often partake in the social events. So check out the
calendar to find an upcoming event. Hope to see you there!
KUOW Pledge Drive
|
Once again, Atheists showed our generosity to the community by
participating in the Pledge Drive for our local NPR station, KUOW. Five fabulous
volunteers spent a Friday evening answering phones and taking pledges. All together,
these members collected $4300 for KUOW. They mentioned us live on the air, in their
newsletter, and on their website. Thanks go to Tiffany (who gets the arbitrary prize
for the most pledges collected), Randy, Kyle, Megan, and Shellie.

Featured Members
In order to recognize some of the many valuable members of Seattle Atheists, you
can now find now a "Featured Member" on the front page of the website. This is a
chance for members to learn about each other, and to show the rest of the world
that atheists are real, live, "normal" people (relatively speaking, of course).
We recently recognized
Randy, and our current Featured Member is
Jami.
Library and Book Reviews
And speaking of Jami... our new librarian has recently updated the online catalog
of our collection. Check
it out. Thanks Jami! Also be sure to check out the book reviews on the main
page, which are being updated as we get reviews. If you have recently read a good
(or not-so-good) atheism-related book, write a quick review to share your thoughts!

Thanks for reading the Member Update! Please
let us know if there's anything we can do to make it more valuable to you.
