Seattle Atheists hosts many activities and events throughout the year, in addition to regular meetings. Here is a listing of some events that Seattle Atheists has been involved in.   • May 1, 2008 Day of Reason Blood Drive
    Seattle Atheists once again organized a blood drive in support of the local community and in celebration of the National Day of Reason.

    Philosopher and author Austin Dacey discussed his new book The Secular Conscience: Why Belief Belongs in Public Life.

  • March 9, 2008 Discussion at First United Methodist Church
    A panel of participants from Seattle Atheists spoke to the youth group of First United Methodist Church in Olympia about the organization (who we are, why we exist, etc.) and then engaged in a discussion with the group.

  • February 10, 2008 Darwin Day
    In February we celebrated Charles Darwin's 199th birthday. Activities included a short presentation about the state of evolution science in the US today, a showing of the PBS documentary Judgment Day: Intelligent Design on Trial, a quiz show, interactive games, a Darwin impersonation contest, birthday cake, snacks, raffles, and fabulous prizes.

    Members brainstormed ideas for the organization over the coming year.


  • December 2007 Holiday Gift-wrapping
    Members volunteered their time and gift-wrapping talents at local bookstores and raised over $600 for Children's Hospital.

    Seattle Atheists volunteered at the KUOW pledge drive.

  • September 22, 2007 Member Meeting
    This member meeting was annual board elections. A new board was chosen and plans for the coming year were discussed.

    Kyle Hepworth, president of Seattle Atheists, was featured on KUOW's The Beat. A recording of the interview is available online here.

  • July 8, 2007 Voulunteering
    Seattle Atheists ran a water station at the SeaFair Marathon.

  • July 1, 2007 Freethinkers' Picnic
    The third annual Independence Day Picnic was another smashing success. Seattle Atheists along with many other groups and unaffiliated supporters had a great time.

  • June 23, 2007 LGBTQ Pride Parade & Booth
    Seattle Atheists conducted outreach, awareness, educational, and support efforts at the pride parade and festival.

  • May 20, 2007 Speaker
    Judy Bendich of the ACLU gave a presentation on civil liberties at the bimonthly Seattle Atheists Membership Meeting.

  • May 19-20, 2007 University Street Fair
    Seattle Atheists conducted outreach and awareness efforts at the annual University District Street Fair.

  • May 3, 2007 Day of Reason Blood Drive
    Seattle Atheists organized a blood drive in support of the local community and in celebration of the National Day of Reason. Sixteen pints of blood were donated.

  • March 25, 2007 Fundraising
    Seattle Atheists volunteered at the KUOW pledge drive.

  • March 11, 2007 Speaker
    Chris Lindstrom, Camp Director of Camp Quest West
    What happens when you put fun and free-thought together? Camp Quest was founded in Tennessee 11 years ago for the children of atheists, humanists and other freethinkers. Last summer Camp Quest came to the west coast. Chris described the highlights of the 2006 camping session and shared plans for 2007.

    Carlene Cross (www.carlenecross.com), author of Fleeing Fundamentalism, gave a reading from her recently published book and shared her experiences with fundementalism.

    Seattle Atheists knows the best way to celebrate the holiday season: Helping those in need. Members volunteered their time and gift-wrapping talents at local bookstores and raised over $750 for Children's Hospital.

    The second annual picnic was a huge success! The event was hosted by Seattle Atheists and many other freethinking groups from the greater Puget Sound area. Many people attended and had a great time.

    Seattle Atheists had a booth at the Fremont Fair. We attracted a lot of attention and raised community awarness. We even got mentioned in the Seattle Times!

    At the first member meeting of the year the Seattle Atheists Board discussed their plans for the upcoming year.

    Mike Newdow gave an informative and entertaining presentation on the history of religion and government in the United States.

    Ellen Johnson, President of American Atheists, gave a talk about Madalyn Murray O'Hair and the history of American Atheists.

  • July 4, 2005 Freethinkers' Picnic
    The first annual picnic was a huge success! The event was hosted by Seattle Atheists and many other freethinking groups from the greater Puget Sound area. Many people attended and had a great time.

  • June 2005 Blood Drive

  • January 2005 Fundraising
    Seattle Atheists raised money for Tsunami Relief. $1,000 was donated to Mercy Corps.



  • September 28, 2003 Speaker
    Ellen Johnson talked about American Atheists and the need for atheists to organize.
