There are 9 Board members: 4 officers and 3
Members-at-Large, plus 2 alternates (See proposed changes below). Positions
are elected by members and this year's elections will be held at the General Member
Meeting on Sunday, September 24th at 2:30pm, at the Greenwood Library in Seattle.
(Meeting info)
Board Meetings are typically held every other month, with occasional general
meetings on the alternate months. Board members make decisions about activities,
events, resources, goals, and administrative tasks. They are required to follow
Seattle Atheists' Constitution and Bylaws.
First, you must be a Seattle Atheists member to run and to vote (don't forget
to renew if you need to! And yes, you can become a member at the meeting.) Then,
simply nominate someone (or yourself) for a specific position. In order to provide
members with information about the candidates, we ask that you submit your nomination
in advance of the meeting on September 24th. Nominations will be accepted at the
meeting, but advance notice is strongly encouraged. Candidates and a brief statement
will be listed on this website as they are received. At the Election Meeting, positions
will be elected one-by-one, by all members. Those not winning a position can "drop
down" and run for another board positions.
Please submit nominations and candidate statements to
Megan.
At the meeting, before nominations and elections begin, there will be three Constitutional
amendments up for vote. One amendment corrects an error in the constitution,
and the other two propose changes in the board makeup and terms of office. Any amendments
that are approved will be effective immediately and apply to the elections. It should
be noted that the board supports and recommends the approval of these amendments,
and there will be a brief discussion and a chance to ask questions about them at
the meeting. They are as follows:
Election Amendment 1: Correction to Section 3.5 of the Constitution to include
"Vice-President" in list of board members.
Election Amendment 2: Amendment to Constitution to increase the 4 officer
positions to 2-year terms (with elections on even years), while keeping at large
positions at 1-yr terms.
Election Amendment 3: Amendment to Constitution to transform the 2 alternate
board member positions to regular board member positions, thereby increasing at-large
members from 3 to 5.
If you have a question about specific position duties, just email the current Board member. If you have questions about the election
process, email
Marcus.
